Poster Design | Blackfriars Theatre - Hourglass Season
For this project, Natalie and I collaborated with Blackfriars Theatre to design a series of four posters for the Hourglass Season, including Gloria, The Ripple, The Wave That Carried Me Home, and two other plays. My role focused on typography and illustration, with the goal of visually conveying the themes and emotional depth of each play. I used bold colors and expressive typography to create designs that captured the intensity and energy of each production while maintaining a consistent look that aligned with Blackfriars' visual style.
Our posters were selected for Blackfriars Theatre’s 2024 Hourglass Season, reflecting our commitment to creating engaging, dynamic visuals for the theater's productions.

Creative Process – What is your reasoning behind these design choices?
Bold Typography: For each poster, I used strong typography to evoke the dramatic energy of each play, ensuring the designs were eye-catching and impactful.
Vivid Colors & Illustrations: I chose vivid colors and expressive illustrations that reflected the unique tone and emotional journey of each play, drawing the viewer in and setting the atmosphere.
Dynamic Type Treatments: I focused on creating dynamic and fluid type treatments to mirror the plays' movement and emotional shifts, enhancing the storytelling aspect through design.
Brand Consistency: The designs were crafted to maintain Blackfriars’ established visual style, ensuring they fit cohesively within their season’s aesthetic while standing out as individual works.
Collaboration & Communication: Throughout the process, Natalie and I worked closely to refine our concepts, balancing our creative ideas to ensure the final posters visually represented the essence of each play.
